Competitive aerobic gymnastics is a fitness, strength and acro skill based gymnastics sport, performed on a hard floor to upbeat music. It involves athletes being judged by a judging panel, on artistry, difficulty, presentation and deductions.
The sport of Gymnastics, which aerobic gymnastics comes under, is the fastest growing sport in Australia. And has the most participants in ages 0-4 of any sport. The sport is very popular in Europe and part of Asia. Aerobic has many social, emotional, mental, and physical benefits for participants, the most obvious being physical fitness.
Contrary to popular belief, aerobic gymnasts have a very high level of cardiovascular fitness as well as strength. Aerobic gymnastics is often compared to artistic gymnastics which is based mainly on strength, not endurance and cardio as aerobics is. This causes the formation of a slim yet short body type, mixing the shorter gymnastics body and the slimmer endurance athlete to create the perfect aerobics athlete. |
